What should I put my gamertag as?
Start with your actual name or nickname.
Your name is a good place to start, even if the final product doesn't resemble your name at all. Try making a play on your first name, last name, or nickname, such as a pun or a reference to a fictional character with a similar name.
What are the rules for gamertags?
Gamertags can be up to 12 characters long, including spaces. They can't start with a number. If you receive a “That name isn't available. Try a different one” message, that means you'll need to create another one.
Should you use your real name on Xbox?
No. Your real name will remain hidden from that person regardless of whether your friend is sharing real names with that person. Your preference is honored first.
